The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has held its 2018 matriculation ceremony to enrol students for the 2018/2019 academic year.
The Institution received a total of 4,407 applications, made up of 3,778 undergraduate and 629 post graduate applications.
In an address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey said the objective of the University was to equip students with both academic excellence and professionalism to compete in the job market.
‘‘When you enrol on any degree programme of the University, you are given free tuition for any professional programme you want to persue alongside. This is to provide UPSA students with both academic degrees and professional qualifications upon completion,’’ he said.
This he said would give UPSA graduates an advantage over graduates from other universities in today’s competitive job market.
Prof. Amartey stated that, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) had granted exemption accreditation to the University’s Bachelor of Science in Accounting Programme and urged students to take advantage of the opportunity.
‘‘The main benefit of ACCA exemption accreditation is that all graduate of UPSA Bachelor of Science in Accounting Program will automatically be granted eight ACCA exemptions. In other words the student writes only five ACCA papers to become a Chartered Accountant,’’ he noted.
Speaking on the Vice Chancellor’s Endowment Fund(VCEF) established last year to source for fund of scholarship for needy but brilliant students, the vice chancellor said the University had been able to award 20 full and partial scholarship for fresh and continuing students at the beginning of the academic year.
He further stated that the VCEF was to be reviewed annually based on academic performance of the beneficiaries and hope to increase the number of recipient urging the public and benevolent institutions to contribute to the Fund.
Administering the matriculation, the registrar of the University, Dr Seidu Mustapha charged students to comport themselves during their stay adding that, the school will not relent in upholding highest ethics and standards.
