A total of 14 people, including men, women and children, who sustained injuries during the violence, were receiving medical attention at the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital.
Meanwhile, nine people were currently in police custody after the Kwesimintsim Police Commander, Superintendent Peter Lennox Aidoo, on Thursday, led a team of security personnel to arrest the suspects.
They are Kofi Arhin, 21, Edward Johnson, 21, Evans Amoah, 30, Solomon Wuru, 50, Jona Odum, 25, Joseph Essien, 43, John Baidoo, 47, David Osei Yalley, 24, and John Banasco, 35.
Briefing the Ghanaian Times yesterday, the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said at about 7.27pm on Wednesday, Supt Aidoo, was informed by the Municipal Chief Executive, Kojo Acquah about the violence at Apremdo.
She said the police at Kwesimintsim Apremdo and Fire Service personnel went to the scene, and the fire personnel quenched fire that had engulfed a house.
DSP Adiku said investigations revealed that a group suspected to be supporters of Nana Egya Kwamina X1, chief of the Apremdo faction, drummed, danced and sang at the “Kundum festival” ground at Apremdo.
She said another group, suspected to belong to the Queen mother, Nana Mozu VII faction, led by one John Nat Panyin, attacked the people and sprinkled some substance suspected to be acid on the drummers.
DSP Adiku said Nana Egya Kwamina’s faction went to John Nat Panyin’s house, where the suspected assailants were hiding, set the house on fire and escaped.
She indicated that the Queen Mother reported the case to the police.
DSP Adiku said although the area was calm, security personnel were stationed at Apremdo, to avert any possible clash and assured that the police would continue to monitor the situation.
The security situation at Apremdo has increasingly become fragile as in July, this year, the Ebusuapanyin Dominic Yalley on behalf of the principal elders, held a news conference declaring the destoolment of Nana Egya Kwamina XI.
The Abusuapanyin accused the chief for taking actions that had brought the stool into disrepute, hatred and contempt.
He contended that “he has misconducted himself and committed serious destoolable offences before the elders of the stool and the stool itself”.
