The Western Regional Fire Command has held a send-off party for the former Commander, Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Obeng Dankwa Dwamena, who has been appointed Director, Human Resource and Training at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) headquarters, in Accra.
DCFO Dwamena served as the Western Regional Commander from January 17, 2012 to April 24, 2018, after his transfer from the Ashanti Region.
In his address, he encouraged the personnel to be loyal to the state, adding “remain committed to your duties and execute them professionally, so that the safety of lives and property of the citizenry is upheld.”
He told the staff to accord similar support they gave during his tenure to the new Commander to move the image of the GNFS to greater heights.
DCFO Dwamena said with the supports of all stakeholders in the region, he chalked successes, including the upgrading of the Axim and Shama fire stations to multi-purpose facilities, while new stations were also established at Nkroful and Essam-Debiso.
Commending Bia East District Assembly for providing an office for the GNFS, he stated that it was also in the process of completing a residential accommodation for fire personnel to enable the Command establish a new fire station at Adabokrom.
DCFO Dwamena thanked the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for the spirit of comradeship he shared with members.
The incoming Western Regional Fire Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) James Emmanuel Quao, appreciated the high professional approach and the culture of dedication to duty his predecessor imbued in the fire officers, among others, and assured that his administration would follow suit.
The Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, said DCFO Dwamena marshalled his officers to draw the best strategies for the effective control and management of fire hazards in the region.
He cited an instance where DCFO Dwamena led his officers, with the support of other sister organisations, to bring under control the gas explosion which occurred at Ghana Household Utensils Manufacturing Company (GHUMCO) in Takoradi, on May 9, 2017, without loss of lives and extensive damage to property.
Dr. Afriyie added, “He was assiduous, adequately analytical and accurately detailed in his reports to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and regularly provided the needed interventions on fire prevention and safety during his term of office.”
