TRICYCLE taxis have now dominated the streets of Ho and are fast becoming the commuter’s choice in the municipality.
This is the brainchild of a private company, Loggu Motors Ghana Limited which introduced 130 of the tricycles onto the roads in the regional capital recently.
During the Te Za (Yam festival) celebration earlier this month (September), the tricycle taxis offered free rides to commuters who patronised the service with great zeal and enthusiasm.
It costs only GH? 1 for a trip within the municipality; much lower a fare than the regular taxi which cost G?1.80 per journey.
Mr Gershon Adeklo, Chief Operating Officer of the company, told the Ghanaian Times in Ho on Tuesday that the principal objective was to help commuters and local businesses in Ho with a cheaper means of transport.
He said that the tricycles had the advantage of beating traffic and could take commuters right to their doorsteps.
The tricycle taxis which operate day and night also come in handy for parcel deliveries.
According to Mr Adeklo, Loggu Motors Ghana Limited was pursuing plans to extend its services to other parts of the Volta Region.
“Already we have opened offices in Dzodze and Juapong and we hope to start operations in those areas soon,” he told the Ghanaian Times.
The chief operation officer gave the assurance that safety on the tricycles was guaranteed, saying that the operators of the machine were well trained and licensed for the job.
“With that number of machines we have on the roads in Ho, we have already provided jobs for 130 tricycle operators,” Mr Adeklo stated.
In future, he said the tricycle taxis would also operate a pre-booking service to give clients the added comfort of picking them from their homes at their own convenience.
