Mrs Sackey presenting a lunch pack to one of the children
THE Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mrs Elizabeth Sackey has expressed disgust about lack of toilet facilities at the Ayalolo cluster of schools in Accra as the pupils are engaged in open defecation.
Mrs Sackey lamented over the situation when she visited the school as part of the commemoration of “my first day in school”.
During her visit, two kindergarten children were seen urinating openly by the side of their classroom since there was no urinal on the compound.
According to her, the school was meant to transform the behavioural patterns of the children adding that “if they come to school and practice the negative behaviours they do at home, how will the society be transformed.”
Mrs Sackey called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Member of Parliament for the area to ensure that a toilet facility was built for the school as soon as possible.
She donated exercise books, lunch packs, school bags, stationeries, soft drinks, bottled water and boxes of indomie.
The Regional Director of Education, Dr Hilda Eghan said the commemoration of my first day at school had become part of the basic school calendar.
She said the day was meant to encourage the children to be punctual at school and take their lessons seriously while urging parents to ensure their children have a solid foundation in their education.
The head of kindergarten and ‘3’Primary at the school, Madam Matilda Quaye called on authorities to come to the aid of the school with toilet facilities describing the current situation in the school as an eyesore.
