A total of 66 locations across the country are to host this year’s Customer Service Mobile Clinic (CSMC) organised by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to bring its services closer to the public.
The five-day event, which is in its seventh year, is on the theme, “Your future is in your Hands”, (Wo [SSNIT] Daakye hy3 wonsa”).
Activities to be undertaken during the exercise include checking and printing of contribution statements, biometric registration, employer registration, benefits processing issues, update of member’s records, retirement advisory services and general enquiries about the business and operations of SSNIT.
At the launch of the CSMC in Accra yesterday, Mrs Laurette Korkor Otchere, Deputy Director-General In-Charge of Benefits and Operations, said, the mobile clinic was to bring SSNIT close to its customers, pensioners and the general public to resolve complaints, and register new members as well as generate feedbacks that would be necessary during policy formulation.
In addition to helping SSNIT’s efforts to expand coverage of the national pension scheme, she said the clinic would further ensure that workers who were not yet enrolled with SSNIT acknowledge the company’s objective to promote customer satisfaction at all times.
“Essentially, we are carrying the branch to the customer. We want the public who are not with SSNIT to know that SSNIT is a customer-oriented organisation that works to satisfy their interests. It will also help us to expand the coverage of our national pension scheme, “she emphasised.
Mrs Otchere noted that SSNIT was focused on providing income to workers of businesses and institutions to ensure that they retired with income security and comfort, and had put in place the needed strategies to reduce pension processing times, resulting in an all time high of 2,928 processed applications in August this year.
In line with its programme on sensitisation, she said the clinic would raise awareness on the importance of social security benefit, when a worker could no longer work and also raise company-wide awareness on the importance of increasing the number of contributors on the national basic pension scheme.
“Social security is a human rights and everyone is entitled to a safe secure and dependable retirement. We are partners in ensuring that this right is upheld and workers do not experience a gap in income during retirement,” she stated.
Citing the 2015 Ghana Statistical Service labour force report, the Deputy Director-General noted that only about 1.27 million of the 1.85 million formal sector workers in Ghana were registered and enrolled on the scheme, and urged the staff to find ingenious ways to ensure that all workers, including those in the informal sector, were covered under social security.
In support of this, she said SSNIT would sustain and improve the customer mobile clinic to address the varying needs of customers, while “it intensifies engagements with the public to educate them on their rights.”
Customer Experience Manager, Mrs Victoria Gifty Abaidoo, said the objective of the CSMC was to showcase and provide excellent services to customers spread across the country, adding that SSNIT desired to partner its customers in order to ensure a comfortable retirement.
