Vice President Dr. Bawumia (inset) addressing the participants during the 4th National Policy Summit in Tamale
The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the government will not be forced to take political decision that will throw the economy out of gear.
Rather, he emphasised that the government would continue to focus on the fiscal discipline and measures that would help build resilient and strong fundamentals for economy growth.
“We will not be forced into taking politically expedient decisions but we would take economically unsustainable decisions,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia stated this during the opening of a two-day national policy summit in Tamale yesterday.
The summit which is on the theme, ‘Assessing government’s flagship programmes’ sensitised and collated views from the public on the implementation of the programmes.
Dr. Bawumia argued that the government was on track and that nothing would stop it to pursue an economy that would address the needs of both high class and the vulnerable in the society.
“We know we are on the right track and we are going to stay the course because we have to look at the long term interest of Ghana and not short term political expediency,” the Vice President stated.
He explained the measures taken by the government would yield positive dividends in future and that soon people would benefit from those policies.
“These are macroeconomic stability, growth-enhance job-creating and social intervention programmes to promote the lives of the vulnerable and the excluded in the society,” Dr. Bawumia emphasised.
He maintained that the NPP government had initiated and implemented social policies than any other political party in the country and challenged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to mention any social intervention that they have implemented.
Dr. Bawumia pointed out that the many social intervention policies were meant to put money into people’s pockets.
He added that it would boost and promote businesses in the country as the government continued to support the private sector.
Dr. Bawumia advised the people not to be deceived by the opposition which had nothing better to offer them.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan Kyerematen, indicated that the government was working with several business partners to realise One District One Factory dream.
