The Kasoa chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Loyal Ladies, yesterday organised a free health consultation and screening exercise for women and children at Kasoa.
The exercise which was held to celebrate the founders’ day offered free medication to mothers and traders at the Kasoa market, while the children were also dewormed.
Beneficiaries were screened for malaria, diabetes, and other diseases including the examination of breast, blood and sugar levels.
Mrs. Florence Osei-Aboagye, the Commander of the Kasoa Loyal Ladies group, said the exercise would screen over 500 women and children in the Kasoa community and refer persons with critical health conditions to the nearest health facility.
She noted that the health screening exercise was to provide health care to the Kasoa community at their doorsteps and educate them on the need to pay attention to their health and do regular health checkups.
Mrs. Osei-Aboagye was hopeful that the exercise would help market women to know their health status and make their health a concern.
Dr. Emmanuel Otabil, a physician assistant at the Mount Olive Medical Centre at Kasoa, observed that residents of Kasoa are mostly ill of malaria and diarrhoea due to the unkempt environment and water bodies surrounding them.
He encouraged them to adopt healthy lifestyles and observe proper personal hygiene to enable them to stay healthy at all times and advised them to make handwashing a habit by washing their hands regularly, especially after visiting the toilets and before touching any food.
Dr Otabil also asked them to shun food sold in dirty environment and food not warmed and uncovered.
Kwabena Appiah, founder of the NPP Loyal Ladies, said the free health screening was also to compliment the President’s efforts to deliver efficiency and quality health care to the citizenry.
He stressed that the group would as part of the screening register and enroll the vulnerable in the community on the National Health Insurance Scheme free of charge.
The NPP Loyal Ladies group was according to him formed to mobilise young women less than 35 years of age to form the foundation of the party and empower young women to venture into politics.
