Huawei, a leading global provider of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, says it is committed to supporting Ghana’s ICT infrastructure development.
“We hope to help the country build even stronger ICT infrastructure and further expand connectivity, giving more people equal access to knowledge, skills and opportunities for growth. We plan to develop more digital services tailored to local needs, and unlock the potential of ICT to improve people’s lives,” Senior Vice President of Huawei, Yi Xiang said this recently during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s visit to China.
Ghana, he said, had been actively advancing an agenda of economic transformation and industrialisation and the country’s business environment was improving.
Yi said, Huawei was committed to improving connectivity in Africa using practical innovations that fit with Africa’s needs pointing out that “our Rural Star solution for rural network coverage actually originated in Ghana and today, it is bringing coverage to rural people in countries all around the world”.
Huawei, Yi stressed had put its combination of global expertise and local experience at Ghana’s service and willing to contribute to Ghana’s ICT development, under the guidance of Ghana’s national economic and social development plan.
“Guided by our core values, we have been committed to building a stronger ICT infrastructure in Ghana, aiming to bring digital to more people, homes, and organisations,” Yi said.
President Nana Akufo-Addo stressed that government would collaborate to improve upon the country’s ICT sector.
The President, who was speaking in China during his visit to Huawei’s Executive Briefing Centre as part of his working tour of the country, said developing Ghana’s ICT sector would go a long way to impart on the economic growth of the country.
Impressed with Huawei’s corporate values he said, ICT created unlimited possibilities, and “Ghana hopes to continue to work closely with Huawei to build communications infrastructure, expand the use of ICT services, and train a skilled workforce.”
“Looking to the future, I am sure that the government of Ghana and Huawei will have a strong and fruitful relationship,” the President said, adding that “Huawei’s corporate values were one of my most important takeaways from the visit which could be adopted in government departments.”
According to the President, Huawei was now working on many ICT projects that were driving development in Ghana and looked forward to working with Huawei to advance ICT transformation for a better connected smart Ghana.
