Government will next week give Ghanaians status reports on its flagship programmes at the 4th national policy summit to be held in Northern Regional Capital, Tamale.
The two-day summit, scheduled for September 24 and 25, 2018 at the University for Development Studies (UDS) is on the theme “Accessing government flagship programmes; the journey so far.”
More light would be shed on the free Senior High School programme, One District One Factory, Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (One Million One Constituency) and One Village, One Dam.
Ghanaians would also be brought to speed on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Minister of Information designate, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, at the launch of the summit in Accra yesterday in Accra, said various sector ministers would take turns to bring stakeholders up to speed on the programmes.
The ministers he said would include are Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh who would give an account on the Free Senior SHS, the double track system and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector and how the government was resolving matters arising.
The Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanten, he said would outline the number of factories the government had established and the number of outstanding projects.
He said Mavis Hawa Koomson , the Minister for Special Development Initiatives would assess the status of the One Village One Dam and the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).
Other speakers, he said, would include Minister for Health Kwaku Agyemang – Manu who would touch on the National Health Insurance Scheme while there would be panel discussions on the various presentations.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is scheduled to deliver the key note address at the opening of the summit, which would be attended by various stakeholders in the country.
Mr Oppong-Nkrumah said the summit would bring to rest worries by various stakeholders on the status of the various programme so they would know that the government was on course in fulfilling its promises.
He said the summit was an avenue the government had created to show its openness and accountability and called on Ghanaians to support the government to better the fortunes of the country.
The summit was introduced last year to provide a platform for government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to engage stakeholders in their operations.
After the initial summits were held in Accra, last year on Trade and Economy and Industry respectively, the third which focused on jobs and the prosperity agenda was moved to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The upcoming edition is supported by Universal Merchant Bank (UMB).
