The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has assured of continuous investment in the human resource development of Ghana and other partner countries, the Country Director, Yukyum Kim has said.
The capacity of human resources, especially in the public sector, he said was crucial for developing countries to unleash their potential and accelerate their growth like Korea.
“Korea’s remarkable development transformation and experience offer hope that every emerging country has full potential and strength to succeed in developing structures and systems that will benefit the present and unborn generations,” he said at a knowledge sharing forum in Accra on Thursday.
It was a platform for some Ghanaian officials who were offered scholarships by KOICA to study in Korea in 2016 to share knowledge acquired, as part of efforts to make their studies relevant to the country’s development.
The 23 beneficiaries, drawn from various government agencies, studied master’s degree courses in finance, health, trade and other development courses in Korean university.
Five of them; Alfred Berkoh; Eric Fordjour; Joan Ennin, Christopher Conduah and Nana Takyi Broni were given the opportunity to present their thesis which hinged on agriculture , health and sanitation, and global trade.
Mr Kim said since the establishment of KOICA in 1991, the Korean Government had, through the agency, supported 800 government officials in Ghana to build their capacity in various programmes.
He told the Ghanaian Times that Ghanaian beneficiaries excelled amongst about 40 beneficiary countries and expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would share knowledge acquired to help develop Ghana.
Jee Young Kim, Deputy Head of Mission, Korean Embassy, said the contribution of the beneficiaries would be useful to Ghana, as the country plans to move beyond aid.
“Enlarge your territories by inhibiting a culture of lifelong learning, a culture where you’re always eager to learn new things and see how best you can translate them to fit into your environment,” he said.
He urged them to allow challenges they face shape them adding “Never let challenges break you, rather brace yourself up, and face the challenges with a positive attitude to conquer it.
