Dr Addai answering questions
Market women in and around Tema Station in Accra have benefitted from a free breast and cervical screening exercise organised by Daughters Ministries, a Kumasi-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) together with Breast Care International (BCI).
Beneficiaries were screened for breast and cervical cancers, and were educated on their effects, signs and symptoms; those with challenges were referred to Peace and Love hospital in Accra for treatment.
Addressing the women, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, President of BCI, said over a million women globally die annually of breast cancer with a greater number of such deaths occurring in middle income countries.
She said regular medical check-ups should be done to identify ailments in the body for treatment, explaining that, it helps in preventing cases from developing into full-blown crisis.
“If ailments are reported early enough, many lives would be saved from untimely deaths,” adding that cancer was “no respecter” of sex, advising males to also be wary of the disesase.
Dr Addai described as untrue, claims that breast cancer was caused by evil spirits.
Rev Abena Tay, founder of Daughters Ministries, urged churches to do more for their communities, saying that the welfare of the people should be the church’s top priority.
