The driver of the Opel car trapped in his seat
All passengers on board an Opel car popularly known as Nzema Jet escaped death when it veered off the road and fell on its side at Cold Store near Beahu in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.
The vehicle with registration number WR1574-18, was said to be travelling from Takoradi to Half Assini, when the incident occurred.
With the exception of the driver who got trapped in the vehicle due to the damaged to his side and had to be pulled out by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), all other occupants were rescued immediately by people at the scene of the accident.
According to Corporal Razak Asumah, of the Agona Nkwanta Police, the driver of the vehicle overtook three vehicles at a stretch and nearly ran into an articulated vehicle with registration number GN 3449-13, which was coming from the opposite direction.
However, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, the driver swerved to the right hand side of the road, but lost control of the vehicle due to the high speed which caused the vehicle to summersault.
He said all passengers were brought out of the vehicle except the driver who was trapped inside until the GNFS was called in to cut off the mangled side of the vehicle to pull out the driver.
Cpl Asumah advised drivers not to take advantage of the good road and go beyond the stipulated speed limit because the greater the speed the more likely it was for drivers to be involved in accidents.
At the time the Ghanaian Times got to the scene, the driver was yet to be identified as he was seriously injured and was in pain.
