A new television production programme to project the stories of individuals and institutions making positive changes in the lives of others and communities was yesterday launched in Accra.
The production dubbed ‘Impact Africa’ would be shown on various television stations in Ghana and beyond.
It is expected to begin by mid-September to tell the story of Africa and showcase best ways to attain sustainable development on the continent.
The Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Bright Wreku Brobbey who launched Impact Africa said the initiative was one of the ways for Civil Society Organisation (CSO) to demonstrate their relevance to economic growth.
He believed that projecting live changing interventions would help reduce poverty as the poverty levels in Ghana and on the African continent as a whole were still high.
“There is hunger amongst the vulnerable across the continent, health standards are threatened by many factors, educational systems are difficult to manage due to increasing population, poor sanitation conditions amongst others,” he said.
Mr Brobbey observed that African countries were still experiencing discrimination, saying while cities and communities need more rigorous planning, poor food preservation was destroying Africa’s food stuck, climate disasters beackon and seas and wildlife are threathened by improper developmental activities as well as poor waste management activities.
He lauded the organisers of Impact Africa for developing an initiative to broadcast the economic growth stories and Africa to the rest of the world.
Mr Michael Owusu, Executive Director of the Impact Africa television series said the programmes would capture events of life changing activities which are not given maximum attention in society.
He hoped that the production would encourage more individuals and institutions to make meaningful impacts in their societies.
The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Michael Femi Abikoye, said in a remark made for him that the high commission was ready to support the Impact Africa initiative to achieve its goal in Africa.
