The Accra Regional Police Command yesterday deployed 20 police motor riders to fight armed robbery in the Accra metropolis.
The personnel, who were trained for 12 weeks, at the Pwalugu Training School in the Upper East Region, would patrol filling stations, shops and vulnerable communities and other areas.
The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) George Alex Mensah, disclosed these to journalists in Accra.
He said the team would support the regional patrol team to arrest armed robbers, who use motorcycles for their operations.
DCOP Mensah said “the public is looking up to the police, and we must ensure that lives and properties are protected against armed robbery attacks”.
He urged the police to collaborate with the public in the discharge of their mandate.
“The public assistance in crime prevention is very crucial. Your attitude towards them must be professional, as personnel, you must show respect and love towards them,” DCOP Mensah said.
He, however, cautioned the police to make their personal safety a priority during the discharge of their duties.
“Do not be a hero and confront a situation, if you cannot handle a situation alone call for reinforcement,” DCOP Mensah said.
The Accra Regional Police Operations Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, expressed hope that the team would help reduce robbery attack in the region.
