Mavis Ama Frempong, Chairperson of the Eastern Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Election Committee for the forthcoming regional elections of the party, has expressed the committee’s commitment to supervise a free and fair election for all candidates.
She said members of the committee had a reputation to protect and had the interest of the party at heart.
Ms Frempong, a former Eastern Regional Minister, noted that the experience gathered in elections over the years would guide the committee to organise the regional elections fairly for everyone to accept the final results.
She expressed the committee’s commitment when the five-member election committee opened nominations for the elections at Koforidua.
Other members of the committee are Magnus Kofi Amoatey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Yilo-Krobo Constituency, Agyeman Duah, former District Chief Executive for Kwaibibirem, Ansah Appiah and Annor Dompreh, all leading members of the party in the region.
Ms Frempong assured the candidates that the guidelines and regulations of the party for the election would be adhered to strictly, to ensure a transparent election.
The interested candidates are to collect their nomination forms between Monday July 16 and Wednesday July 18, 2018, and submit their completed forms to the committee on July 23 and 24, 2018.
The vetting of candidates is scheduled to take place between August 1 and 5, 2018.
A candidate who may be disqualified had the right to appeal through the appeals committee that would be set up by the national executive.
All candidates are expected to be of good standing as well as those who would propose and second the candidates. -GNA
