President Akufo-Addo with the Governing Board of the OSP
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday performed the final act in the establishment of the Office of Special Prosecutor with the inauguration of a nine-member board to provide direction to the office.
The Board includes Mr. Martin Amidu, Special Prosecutor, Deputy Special Prosecutor Cynthia Lamptey, Mr. Addae Wireko-Tawiah, Representative of the Audit Service and Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah, Representative of the Police Service and Director of Police CID.
The others are Mr. Charles Nana Antwi, Representative of the Economic and Organized Crime Office, Mr. Kofi BoadiBoakye, Representative of the Financial Intelligence Centre, Mr. Charles Ayamdo, Representative of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice.
The rest are Mr. Kwaku Domfeh, the nominee of the Minister responsible for National Security, and Linda Ofori-Kwafo, representative of the Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organizations.
Section 5 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017, (Act 959) provides that the Governing Body of the Office is a Board consisting of the Special Prosecutor, Deputy Special Prosecutor, a representative of the Audit Service not below the rank of a Director nominated by the Auditor General, a representative of the Police Service not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police nominated by the Inspector General of Police.
The Act also requires a representative of the Economic and Organized Crime Office not below the rank of a Director nominated by the Executive Director, a representative of the Financial Intelligence Centre not below the rank of a Director nominated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre, and a representative of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice not below the rank of a Director nominated by the Commissioner of Human Rights and Administrative Justice on the board.
The others are one person with background in intelligence and not below the rank of a Director nominated by the Minister responsible for National Security and one person who is a female representing the Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organizations.
At a short ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra, President Akufo-Addo administered the Oaths of Office and Secrecy and told the members that there was a great deal of expectation on them by Ghanaians who wanted to see the impact the Office of Special Prosecutor in the fight against corruption.
He urged the board to work to ensure the independence of the Office and entreated the members to seek cooperation with law enforcement agencies to enable the office realise the statutory demands on the office by the people of Ghana
President Akufo-Addo expressed the government’s commitment to support the work of the Office of Special Prosecutor and provide it with the needed resources to enable it perform its functions to the expectation of the public.
Mrs. Linda Ofori-Kwafo on behalf of the Board, expressed gratitude for the privilege and opportunity to serve the country and assured Ghanaians of the Board’s commitment to discharge its mandate well to minimize corruption in the country.
