According to the Command, all the seven are Fulanis, four of them suspected to be directly involved in the incident.
They were arrested in their hideouts at Kwamang in the Ashanti Region, and Jema, Yeji, Techiman and Prang all in the Brong Ahafo Region, said a statement issued by Ashanti Regional Police Command.
The statement said two shotguns, one locally made pistol and 17 live cartridges were retrieved from them.
The police said two of the suspects were cattle owners and financiers of the gang, while one other supplied the gang with weapons.
Their names have not been made public for security reason, according to the release signed by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police Ken Yeboah.
The police said its investigations proved that the attack on the deceased, Inspector Adolph Mutse and Constable Prosper Asinyo, were to rob and kill them as a form of revenge on the Police Service over their fight against the Fulani herdsmen and their cattle.
Their arrest followed a promise by the Police Command to arrest the culprits of the horrendous crime against the Police Service, leading to the police storming Agogo and the Afram Plains with 200 security personnel over the weekend beefing-up security in the plains.
It was reported by Ghanaian Times that, the officers were shot and killed in an ambush attack by unidentified assailants when they were returning from a night patrol duty at Drobonso Tent City at about 5:30 a.m.
The incident followed four days, after four security personnel, three soldiers and a police officer, all members of the Operation Cow Leg , a taskforce set up to evict the herdsmen and their cattle from the plains, were shot at by some suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The killing of the police officers was the first killing that had been recorded in the Ashanti Region this year which triggered fears among the inhabitants, especially farmers.
Inhabitants linked the incident to the Fulani herdsmen coming barely a day after the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah announced the Regional Security Council’s readiness to enforce a 2012 high court order to evacuate the Fulani herdsmen and their cattle from the plains.
