The debate as to who becomes the next Inspector General of Police (IGP) when the current Chief Constable ends his tenure of duty by next month continues unabated.
However, the person possibly to breast the tape in the neck-to neck event is 51-year-old Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr Akuffo Dampare, the present Director General of Administration.
The Chronicle has gathered from unimpeachable sources that barring any last-minute change of mind, President Akufo-Addo would be appointing the PhD-holder in finance as his next IGP, though others such as COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Special Duties, and COP Nathan Kofi Boakye, who is in charge of Legal, cannot be completely rule out.
Earlier, the name of the dark horse, COP Mr George Mensah, Director General of Services surfaced.
Meanwhile, The Chronicle has also gathered that effective next month (July), the Police Administration would be saying goodbye to persons who have come to be known as ‘contractors’ now occupying positions at the apex of Service. To this end, the Service has lined up a series of pull-outs to bid farewell to them.
They are the Director General of Human Resource, COP Nana Asoma Hinneh, 64 years, Ashanti Regional Commander, COP Mr Kwasi Duku, 62 years and Director General of Operations, and COP Mr Boadu Peprah who is 61 years.
