The watermelon factory is being constructed under the 1D1F by Champion Foods and Beverages Limited, a wholly owned Ghanaian beverage manufacturing, distribution and marketing company. When he visited the construction site, the President was informed that the company is employing the use of PET line technology, as compared to the Tetra Packs technology.
Being financed with a facility from the Ghana EXIM Bank, the President was informed that the overall project is 90% complete.
Offices and staff accommodation at 80% completion, and plant, equipment, and machinery all on site ready to be installed.
It is expected that in March 2022, the factory will begin full operationalisation with the company having installed a 10 metric tonnes per hour facility.
It is further expected that upon completion, the company will create direct employment opportunities for 300 Ghanaians and over 2,000 indirect workers.
This will include farmers and aggregators, to be engaged in an out-grower scheme, covering parts of North East, Northern and other Regions of the country.
1D1F TAMANA RICE FACTORY
The President also visited Tamanaa Company Ltd., a rice farming and processing company located in Nasia, near Walewale, which is also operating under Government’s 1-District-1-Factory initiative.
As a result of the support received from the Government, the company has been able to expand its operations by adding a 250-metric ton per day rice milling facility, to its already existing 40 metric ton per day plant.
So far, some 148 workers have been employed, with the company generating a turnover of some $1.5 million annually. The company markets 60% of its rice as parboiled and the remaining 40% as non-parboiled under the brand name Nasia Star Rice.
TamanaaCompany currently engages over 4,000 rice farmers and aggregators operating in the West Mamprusi, East Mamprusi, Savulugu, Nanton and Mamprugu-Moagduri Districts.
Bawumia is first-class
The President also met WuluguNaba and his chiefs in Walewale to pay a courtesy call, having touched down in his territory. In his remarks, President Akufo-Addo showered praises on his right-hand man, the Vice President, Alhaji MahamuduBawumia, who comes from Walewale, describing him as a first-class assistant.
The President thanked the people of Walewale and by extension the North East, for giving him their son who has helped his and his government.
“I want to end by saying a big thank you to the people of the North East Region, especially to the people of Walewale. You have given me a first-class assistant in the form of the Vice President MahamuduBawumia. He has been of great help to me and my government,” he said yesterday in Walewale.
“…The second reason for my coming is to have the opportunity to thank the people of the North East very deeply for the big support they gave me and my party during the last general elections. Of the six seats in the North East region, the NPP won four and for the first time in the history of the Republic, the NPP Presidential candidate won an absolute majority of the presidential votes in the North East Region,” he stated.
The President continued: “I have two regrets. Nalerigu and Bunkpurugu did not vote for the NPP. It’s a pity and I am hoping that the next time we will do better so we can get all six seats in the North East Region. In Nalerigu we lost a very favourite woman of mine, and in Bunkpurugu we lost a regional minister.”
He thanked the WuluguNaba for his words of commendation to him in his remarks, which highlighted the numerous projects the government has undertaken and expressed the gratitude of the people to the President.
The President ceased the opportunity to encourage everyone to endeavour to participate in the upcoming census, which falls on Sunday, June 27, 2021, the census night.
The President, while at it, indicated to the gathering that regardless of one’s tribe, or religion, so long as June 27, 2021 meets you in the country, “get counted,” he said, explaining that accurate data of the population would help in the development of the country.
