Police have made a giant stride in their bid to nab the bandits who attacked a bullion van at Adedenkpo, Timber Market, in Accra, resulting in the death of the police escort, General Constable Emmanuel Osei and a 40-year old woman, Afua Badu.
The Chronicle pacing a step behind the frontline detectives can confidently say that the investigators are counting on video footages captured by phones owned by individuals.
These individuals managed to capture the scene, as well as other credible sources.
It is possible that crime investigators would use facial recognition equipment to identify and match the faces of known criminals.
The Chronicle’s deep throat sources in the security services intimated that they are leaving no stone unturned in solving the mystery.
On Monday, June 14, 2021 at about midday, armed gangsters riding a number of motorbikes attacked the Mon-Tran bullion van at Adedenkpo in the capital, Accra.
The gunmen shot and killed the policeman Constable Emmanuel Osei of the National SWAT, Police Headquarters.
A woman, who reportedly was serving a customer in her kiosk, was killed by a stray bullet.
The driver of the bullion van sustained bullet wounds while the cashier on board the van escaped to safety. The killing of Constable Osei who passed out eight months ago from the Police Training School in Koforidua has added to the long list of police personnel who died in line of duty of late.
They include; Cpl Agatha Nabenwho was shot and killed at a snap checkpoint in Tamale two years ago.
The Manso and Techiman bullion van attacks also left two police personnel and civilians killed, and the Akim Oda and Asante Mampong police unnatural deaths respectively.
We also recall the shooting to death of two personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) at Kasoa.
