The Member of Parliament (MP) for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyakotey has cut sod for commencement of work on a KG block for Samlesi-Amanga Community.
Samlesi-Amanga, a community in the Yilo Krobo Municipality, has been without a KG block since formal education began in the area.
Albert Nyakotey, who places a premium on quality education, while speaking at the ground breaking event at Samlesi-Amanga JHS School Park, recounted the request made to him by the Community for a KG block.
He affirmed his commitment to the pledge he made by cutting sod for the project to commence and also going ahead to provide the needed funds from his personal resources, to fund the project because the MP’s common fund has not yet been disbursed.
Nene Ebenezer Tetteh, a community leader who spoke on behalf of the Chiefs and People of Samlesi, thanked Mr Albert Nyakotey for delivering on his promise.
According to him, Albert Tetteh Nyakotey promised to provide resources towards the development of the human resource of the area and he (Nene Ebenezer Tetteh) is very sure the MP would fulfil the promise.
He admonished parents to assist in improving educational standards in the rural communities, stressing on the need for members of the community to guide their kids through “take home assignments”.
The chiefs were full of praise for the YiloKrobo legislator, as they lamented difficulties they go through in sending their kids to far away communities in pursuit of elementary education.
In a related development, the MP has reached out to the people of Apersua, a community situated close to Nkurakan, a major market center within the constituency to rehabilitate a dilapidated School building block, which was damaged and had parts of its roof destroyed by heavy rain storm.
The school, which is the only primary school serving Apersua and its neighboring communities, had its roof ripped off on April 13, 2015 and had remained so with worsening conditions affecting teaching and learning.
Upon a visit to the school, one could spot a school building with broken windows and doors on the primary school block, a deteriorated and life-threatening toilet facility and a KG block in a terrible state, making it almost impossible for effective teaching and learning to take place.
With dwindling enrollment numbers owing to failure of authorities to award the school with a School feeding Program, it came as good news when the MP decided to rehabilitate the School building block in order to restore a conducive academic atmosphere for both pupils and teachers.
Responding to the gesture, traditional authorities in the area lamented how on countless occasions, they have had to visit the Assembly to come to their aid, but on all occasions they received “sweet” promises which has spanned close to Six (6) years without much action.
They explained how many times they had pleaded for the school to be added to the School feeding Program, but to no avail, a situation which has caused most parents to withdraw their wards from the school.
Speaking at the event, the MP called on the people to be good care-takers of projects or facilities provided by successive governments and MPs.
He added that, though the MP’s Common Fund is yet to be disbursed, he found the need to alleviate the plight of the people with the renovation of the School block from his personal funds, until the Common funds are released.
