A new twist to the sad demise of Leticia Kyere Pinamang, the final year student of the Miracle Junior High School in Sunyani, who allegedly committed suicide, has emerged.
Earlier media reports had suggested that the deceased was found hanging in the school’s dining hall after she allegedly killed herself and left a note that read: “There is so much sorrow and pain in my heart”.
Furthermore, the Housemistress of the school, Gifty Acheampong, in various interviews said “I was in the kitchen when I heard the students shouting.”
I rushed there and saw her hanging, so I quickly rushed to the church auditorium to call the proprietor and the proprietress.
However, parents of the deceased have within the past 48 hours given their version of the incident. According to the parents, a careful observation of the body of the deceased does not support suicide claims.
“My daughter was killed by somebody and hanged in the school to cover up”, Mr. William Okyere, father of the deceased said in an interview on Sunyani based Nimdee FM.
According to Mr Okyere, the left wrist of his daughter has been pierced, an indication that blood might have been drawn out of her before she died.
“The report that a suicide note was left by my daughter is false, because if that was the case, it would have been brought to my attention when I rushed to the school on the day of the incident”, he said.
Mr Okyere said the school authorities may be attempting to cover up that is why they are pushing out the suicide claim.
“Since the death of my daughter, the school authorities have not found it necessary to sympathise with us, are they afraid of us”, he asked.
According to Mr Okyere, the police have called a Pathologist from Accra to confirm the cause of death and believes a post-mortem would reveal what actually happened to his daughter.
“The police said they have called for a Pathologist from Accra to examine the body for the cause of death; so let us disregard claims that my daughter committed suicide”, he said.
The mother of the deceased has also said her daughter was killed and hanged to make it look as though she killed herself. She claimed that a doctor has confirmed to her that Leticia never committed suicide because “her tongue never stuck out when her corpse was removed from the rope that she allegedly used to commit the act”.
Moreover, she added her late daughter did not pass involuntary stool and urine which often characterises suicide corpses, a clear indication that her child was murdered.
Meanwhile, the Proprietor of the Miracle Educational Academy, Mr. John Tetteh, has given a detailed description of the state in which the late student was found.
Mr. Tetteh revealed in an interview monitored by The Chronicle that the student was found with her tongue stuck out from her hanging body, which was tied to a wood in the school’s dining hall.
“She was hanging there and she had eased on herself, but because she was wearing tight underwear we could not see it, but when it was removed they saw it”.
He added that: “She urinated on herself and there was also a table and chair there. It was a dining hall so everything was there. She tied the rope to a wood in the dining hall.”
Mr. Tetteh also disclosed the circumstances leading to the girl committing suicide and how the school’s authorities were informed about the incident.
“We were having Bible studies, praying, when she stepped out. After church, I was informed that she had hanged herself. I called my spokesperson and we went to the scene. Upon arrival at the scene we saw her body hanging and we went to the police station to report.
“It’s not true that she was murdered. From what I saw and the note she left in the dining hall (everything) showed that it was suicide and no one killed her.”
The school has in a statement given assurance that it is cooperating fully with the police to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the student. The statement said the school will issue a communiqué when there is any new development.
