Ghanaian singer, Gyakie, has achieved a new career-high by ranking above Burna Boy and Davido on the latest ranking of the UK’s Official Afrobeats Chart Top 20.
The remix of her song Forever, featuring Nigerian crooner Omah Lay is at number nine, whereas Burna Boy’s Bank On It is at number 11. Kwesi Arthur and Joeboy’s Door charts at number 19 followed by Davido’s Holy Ground at number 20.
The ranking is based on the number of times a song is streamed, and copies sold in the United Kingdom within seven days. The list is put together by the Official Charts Company and powered by Afro Nation. The chart spotlights the top 20 Afrobeats songs in the UK within a particular week.
On April 30, 2021, YEN.com.gh reported that Gyakie had made history with a feature on a new initiative by the world’s biggest streaming service, Spotify.
She is the only African artiste who is a part of the inaugural class of EQUAL, an initiative by the international music company. The program seeks to push the music of female artistes around the world.
In a press release acknowledging the recognition, the singer expressed how honoured she was to be featured on the platform.
“I am deeply honoured to be the first African woman to partner with Spotify for EQUAL. This is huge for so many women across the continent and the entire globe. I don’t take this lightly at all,” she said.
Earlier in the same month, she made an impressive showing on Billboard’s Top Triller global Chart. The remix of her song Forever which features Nigerian artiste, Omah Lay, dominated the airwaves and charted at number three ahead of a song by Jennifer Lopez and just behind a song by Cardi B.
