Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a known large scale miner and farmer, has launched a come back to his mining activities.
Chairman Antwi Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, has told party activists at a meeting at his residence, regional party office and La Sab Hotel, that he has just renewed his licence at the cost of US$ 1 million to enable him go back to his mining business.
According to him, mining is the source of his finances, with which he can bankroll the party and its activities.
He complained that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) collapsed his mining business and expected the NPP government to help him revive it, yet he has not had any support whatsoever to generate more funds to, in turn, support the party.
Chairman Wontumi complained that he has no appointment, neither is he on any Board, yet he funds most party activities.
He said not a single excavator, out of the lot confiscated, in operations by the various ministers from Peter Amewu, Kweku Asumah-Kyeremeh and Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, has been given to him as compensation.
Chairman Wontumi also disclosed on tape that he funds party activities from his own resources and even pays 10% as the only NPP man to get contracts, which claim he said the Minister of Roads and Transport can testify to.
The party Chairman claimed he pre-finances contracts awarded him, which he wins the hard way, unlike other contractors from the other political divide and that government owes him about GHC100 million in contract sum.
He explained further that he gets contracts by paying 10% to Odike and Akpaloo to take over contracts awarded them.
Mr Antwi Boasiako, who is seeking re-election as Regional chairman of the party for the third time has since the last two weeks held series of meetings with party executives at all levels, including first and second vice chairmen, organisers, women’s wing, youth leaders, secretaries and assistant secretaries, serial callers, Nasara and lately Presiding Members and selected MMDCEs.
At one of the meetings, he asked for forgiveness in case he had stepped on the toes of activists in the course of his functions as the party Chairman.
“I want to do something better for the party but can’t do the best because l am not a perfect human being”, he explained his seeming excesses.
