There is tension at Kwahu-Nkwatia in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, following the planned take-over of the Chief’s Palace by the Registrar of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Mr. Richmond Pesu.
The Regional House has served notice that it would forcibly evacuate Mr. Samuel Boama Danso from the Kwahu Nkwatia Palace for carrying himself out as the chief of the area.
This was contained in a letter, dated April 14, 2021 and signed by Mr. Richmond Pesu with copies to the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command, all parties, including the Officer in charge of the Nkwatia Police Station, and Registrar of Kwahu Traditional Council.
According to the Registrar, the operation would be carried out today, Thursday April 29, 2021, under the supervision of the Nkwakwa Divisional Police Command.
The Registrar, in his letter, explained that the planned evacuation of the chief follows a ruling delivered by the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, which ordered him (Registrar) to take over the palace and all properties belonging to the Nkwatia Stool.
“I write this letter pursuant to the ruling delivered by the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on Nkwatia Stool Affairs, which specifically ordered the Registrar to take possession of Nkwatia Stool properties, and delivered the same after resolution of the dispute. The Registrar of this house has, therefore, decided to carry out this order on Thursday April 29, 2012,” the letter said.
But the kingmakers and residents of the area have hinted that they were well prepared and ready for any person or group of persons who would come to the palace on the said day to carry out the operation.
Addressing the media at the forecourt of the palace on Wednesday, the Chief Linguist of the Kwahu-Nkwatia Stool, Nana Kisi Buadum Puasakye II, called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to immediately call his men to desist from allowing them to be used by some selfish people in the area.
According to the kingmakers and people of the area, they were no longer afraid of any intimidation or threat from any police officer, hence, their call on the IGP, since they would confront any person who dares to enter the palace on Thursday.
The press conference was attended by six other communities, including Pepease, Abene, Atibie, Pitiko, Bukruwa and Nkwatia.
According to the Chief Linguist, Mr. Samuel Danso Boama was installed chief of Kwahu Nkwatia barely four years ago, with stool name Nana Boama Ayiripe II, after all the traditional and customarily rites have been duly performed.
He continued that Kwahu-Nkwatia residents were peace-loving, but would not allow any person to take their peaceful nature as their weakness, most importantly, when people want to wrongly take what belongs to them.
Mr Samuel Danso Boama was installed Chief of Kwahu-Nkwatia barely four years ago, with stool name Nana Boama Ayiripe II, but his installation was later challenged by the late Queenmother of the area, Nana Agyeiwaa Kodie II, at the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
She accused the Krontihene, Nana Odei Tutu Ababio, and some of the stool elders and kingmakers of installing Samuel Boama Danso as Chief without her involvement, and her plea was subsequently granted following an order for Nana Boama to vacate the Palace.
“In considering the application, therefore, Nananom will grant the application restraining the respondent from dealing with or doing anything at the chief’s palace at Nkwatia in any manner or whatsoever, pending final determination of this appeal,” the judgment stated.
“However, in order to preserve the stool property affected by this dispute, and in order that the palace will be fully secured, nananom hereby, orders the Registrar of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs to take over possession of the palace until the final determination of the appeal, it added.
