The former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei, has received a baptism of fire from fanatics of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Her ‘crime’ was that she was part of Mr Kwaku Baako Junior’s family delegation, which called on President Akufo-Addo this week, to express appreciation for mourning with them during the funeral of the Crusading Guide Editor In Chief’s mother.
In the earlier hours of yesterday, social media was taken by surprise, following the release of pictures of the meeting. A development which triggered mixed reactions.
The Chronicle monitored the various comments and observed that the one-time ‘lover-girl’ of the NDC had come under severe verbal attacks from her supposed allies, who hailed her before, during, and after the 2016 election.
After her removal from the position through due process, sympathisers of the NDC claimed President Akufo-Addo intentionally removed her from office.
However, seeing her at Jubilee House in pictures with the President, who was believed to have kicked her out of office, a section of NDC supporters feel betrayed by Madam Charlotte Osei, hence, their attacks on her.
For instance, one Haruna, commenting on the pictures, said: “Yenewoserekwa,” to wit, people laugh with you but don’t mean it.
Another comment from Bismark said: “I suspect something during 2016 election with both the then EC and mother serpent. How come?”
Also, Tay’s post was asking if Charlotte Osei had “sold out the NDC to NPP?”
An interesting comment from Kojo Addo was: “Mission accomplished. I have come to demand the promise.”
It is public knowledge that Charlotte’s mission as EC Chair was to oversee the conduct of the 2016 general election.
Ironically, while supporters of the NDC bashed the former EC boss, those of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) were praising the moment to tease their opponents.
Francis Nasis asked: “What will our comments be if Charlotte Osei was in a picture like this with John Mahama? Judgement day will be very interesting.”
However, one Awini Thomas admonished fellow comrades to spare Mrs Charlotte Osei the attacks.
Another comment to his admonishment was, “we saw what happened in this country so for me I see everything wrong. Thanks.”
Despite the attacks, some also came through with nice words for Madam Charlotte Osei.
Felix posted: “She did not do anything, but teaching that she is not dead though they wished evil for her, God would cater for and bitterness would not swallow her.”
Prince said: “Charlotte has shown beyond my imagination; how mature she is. She clearly has the strength to handle a state institution.”
Stephen Atubiga, a known figure in the NDC, posted: “This is very beautiful and very interesting. Nothing is impossible in this world. The reasons why we should never say never in life.”
Dela Coffie, also a known NDC member, posted: “When all is said and done, life must continue! President Akufo-Addo and former EC chair – Charlotte Osei. Great stuff.”
But to Wisdom, President Akufo-Addo is a master tactician, adding, “Permanent interest, the President is a master in that field.”
The Editor-In-Chief of New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, was not spared some of the attacks, as some questioned the motive behind his bringing the two together.
Kofi Essilfie posted: “And what did Kweku Baako achieve by ‘bringing the two together?’ God can never be deceived.”
Kweku Baako was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Isha Baako, his sisters, Judy Akosua Larbi Osei, and Sabina Chinebuah, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, former EC Chairperson, a relative, and other members of the family.
Madam Faustina Nelson and Ade Coker, both family members, were also part of the delegation. The family delegation was led by Abusuapayin George Enninful.
