The Director-General, Welfare, Ghana Police Service, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah, has advised the general public not to resort to self-medication anytime they suspect malaria, but rather go to a health facility to seek medical attention. She is equally calling for a clean environment if the nation desires to eradicate the disease.
Speaking at a ceremony where Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Company Limited and Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Center (ISO 9001 2015 certified), both subsidiaries of the Tobinco Group of Companies, donated assorted drugs to the police on Monday, this week, COP Tiwaa said malaria can affect everyone, irrespective of the person’s status, and that there must be concerted efforts to fight the disease.
The medicines, which include cartons of Lufart DS, both tablets and suspension, XFeron (iron Illpolymoltose) 150ml, all produced by Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Centre, were worth over GH¢100,000. The presentation was done to coincide with the World Malaria Day, which was on the theme, “Reaching the Zero-Malaria Target.”
Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Center was established to produce these anti-malarial and many more medicine locally to augment and reduce the importation of these medicines.
COP Tiwaa expressed gratitude to the Tobinco Group of Companies for the gesture, saying the medicines would not only benefit the police, but also the general public, promising that the drugs would be put to good use.
On behalf of the Executive Chairman, Nana Amo Tobbin I, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Tobinco Group of Companies, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, pledged the company’s support to the government of Ghana to reach the zero-malaria target.
Mr Dwumfour, who noted how malaria was affecting many Ghanaians, said the donation formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, adding that Tobinco has been at the forefront in the fight against Malaria over three decades now through the manufacturing and distribution of quality drugs in the country and the sub-region.
Mr. Dwumfour noted Entrance Pharmaceuticals, which is extending its tentacles across the West Africa Sub-region, is already manufacturing and distributing its brands of anti-malarials, which includes Lufart and Artenate tables and suspension (ACT).
He urged the public to ensure clean and safe environment, embark on individual and group cleanup exercises in their respective areas, in order to eliminate malaria.
The Marketing Manager for Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Company Limited, Abdulai-Musah Sabonkudi, expressed worry over how malaria had claimed many lives in the past two decades. He, therefore, assured the public that the two companies were committed to continue to provide quality medicines to enable the government achieve its zero-malaria target.
He reiterated that to support government achieve this goal, the company would not only limit the donation to the Police Hospital, but also support the policies of the government to achieve its zero-malaria target.
