The Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. George Boakye, has urged chiefs to name and shame opinion leaders behind violence to help pave way for development in the region.
Mr. George Boakye said this when he paid a courtesy call to paramount chiefs in the region to officially introduced himself as the newly appointed Regional Minister, and stated that it is time they adopted such initiative to end violence.
According to him, there were measures that had been put in by the former Minister, Mr. Evans Opoku Bobie, which had helped reduced the rate of violence, but another twist to erase it completely is to implement the naming and shaming initiative.
He explained that there were many investors who were ready to do businesses in the region to foster development to improve the standard of living of the residents, but due to the rate at which the youth are engaged in violence, non was willing to show up, which does not augur well for the region.
“Irrespective of the leader behind any form of violence, the naming and shaming method must be used to deter others, and to see our region progress,” the Minister stressed.
He emphasised that the media must be partnered in making the naming and shaming initiative a reality, meaning, any leader behind any form of violence must be condemned massively on air.
“It’s time we desist completely from violence to invite investors from various sectors to help build our region, which is blessed with natural resources,” Minister told the chiefs.
He assured them of teaming-up to develop the region, because he had a mandate to develop the region just like the chiefs. Again, he urged the chiefs not to hesitate to call him to order if he goes astray.
Almost all the paramount chiefs visited appealed to the Minister to assist the region to have good roads to improve development. According to them, in terms of good roads, the region comes nowhere near the others, so his priority must be the building of roads.
They promised him of their support to make him one of the best ministers in the country, in terms of bringing developmental projects to the doorsteps of the people, and he should not find it difficult to approach them at any point in time.
The Minister visited places such as Acherensua, Mim, Kenyasi No.1, Kenyasi No.2, Hwidiem, Duayaw Nkwanta, Akrodie, Ntotroso, and Bechem.
