The office of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) in the Volta Region has provided 1,950 dual desks for schools it built in strategic communities in fourteen out of the eighteen municipal and districts of the region at a total cost of GH¢887,500, and has handed over the furniture to the schools at a short ceremony in the capital, Ho.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Letsa, who handed the furniture over to the Regional Directorate of Education to be distributed to the beneficiary schools, commended the Coastal Development Authority for the support, which, he noted, would go a long way to promote education in the region, since the issue of inadequate classrooms and furniture in some identifiable schools as CODA did, would be a thing of the past.
Presenting the items, the Regional Minister observed that the provision of the furniture would go a long way to enhance effective teaching and learning, and stressed the need for the beneficiary institutions to ensure that the furniture would be handled well.
He further stressing on the maintenance culture that would help prolong the lifespan of the desks.
The North Tongu District Director of Education, Mr. Godwin Amelor, who represented the Volta Regional Director of Education, Madam Enyonam Afi Amafugah, received the furniture, thanked the government, and gave the assurance that the items would be distributed in the selected schools.
The contractor, Mr. Abednego Danso of Vouch Ghana Limited, which manufactured the dual desks, stressed that quality was the hallmark of his construction firm and that the furniture provided for the schools was of high quality and would last for years.
Adding that with proper handling they would use it for many years to come.
