There was a mad rush for dead dolphin-like mammals reportedly washed ashore at Axim Benwire in the Nzema East District of the Western Region on Sunday.
The safety of the fish is not assured as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is yet to ascertain the cause of the death of the fishes.
But this fact did not scare the residents, as some were seen rushing for the species allegedly for consumption and sale.
Last Sunday, dolphins, numbering about 60, were washed ashore dead in the Benwire waters, triggering fear of reported pollution of the Benwire sea.
Though the Ministry of Fisheries has issued a statement confirming the incident, it is yet to establish its cause. However, the residents have since been flocking to the scene to feast on the mammals.
For now, information available to this reporter indicates that the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service has moved to Benwire to manage the development. The Police are consequently admonishing the public to desist from consuming or buying the dolphin-like dead fish.
The police have warned that they would not hesitate to arrest anyone seen selling the dead fishes.
