An Accra High Court has given one Chantelle Nunekpeku 21 days to file her appeal submission after having failed to do same since 2018.
The decision follows Chantelle’s inability to file the appeal submission to court, against a sentence that was handed down to her by a lower court in 2018.
Chantelle came into contact with the law after acting together with her alleged boyfriend, KayodeKalode, to photoshop pictures of one Destina Tata onto another person’s nude body and distribute it on the social media.
Chantelle, a beautician and Kalode, a music producer, both residents of Sowutuom in Accra, were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and offences relating to obscenity and domestic violence, as well emotional and psychological trauma.
Unfortunately, the prosecution told the circuit court, presided over by Mrs AbenaOppongAdjin-Doku that, the complainant in the case, Madam Tata, happened to be a girlfriend of Kalode.
Chantelle changed her plea from guilty to not guilty, while Kalode maintained that he was not guilty.
Chantelle, after being sentenced by the court, appealed against the sentence, but had since not made any submission to the court in that regard.
Regrettably, Chantelle failed to show up at the Criminal High Court that will be hearing her appeal yesterday.
Meanwhile, the state prosecutor, Amerley Agyeman, told the court that both Chantelle and her boyfriend were granted bail, pending appeal.
MsAgyeman added that Chantelle, after her conviction and the application for bail was granted, has since refused to file her appeal.
Her lawyer, however, explained to the court that Chantelle was out of the jurisdiction and could not make it to the court because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
