A group calling itself Cadres for Accountable Leadership (CAL) has, at a news conference in Accra, given the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Executive Council, Functional Executive Committee (FEC) and the Council of Elders two weeks toproduce their own collated figures or pink sheets for the 2020 election.
According to the group, should the NDC hierarchy fail to meet the 14-day ultimatum, they shall embark on a series of mass action, including nationwide protests across all NDC offices, wards, branches, constituencies, regional and national to demand the resignation of all the current officers.
The group shall also constitute a nationwide sustained campaign “to remove from office all party officers whether by hook or crook. The NDC faces extinction from our political landscape and we at ‘Cadres For Accountable Leadership’ won’t allow this to happen.”
Convener for the group, Livingston Pay-Charlie, who addressed the media yesterday, said their demand was not too hard a task for the leadership to provide pink sheets or collated figures covering the 38,622 polling stations in the 2020 election.
Livingston Pay-Charlie indicated that CALare pretty sure, based on public utterances by some party leaders, that the NDC has its own collated figures from the pink sheets.
If not “on what basis would some party leaders at a press conference declare that the NDC had won the 2020 election for which reason supporters should occupy the streets and jubilate? Or is it an orchestrated agenda by the national leadership to disrespect our hardworking supporters and footsoldiers?” he quizzed.
The demand of the group, come few weeks after the 2020 presidential candidate of the NDC suffered a unanimous defeat at the Supreme Court, in the case he filed challenging the declaration of the last presidential elections.
In its judgement, the court observed that the petitioner, John Dramani Mahama, who contested the election on the ticket of the NDC, failed to provide evidence, including collated results to contradict that of the Electoral Commission.
During the election petition hearing, the plaintiff and his witnesses were asked several times by the judges what results they collated themselves, but they maintained they had not come to court with those figures.
That development, according to CAL, “is an eyesore for the party to go to court without originating a distinct figure from the pink sheets in order to challenge what was declared by the Electoral Commission.”
The group continued that: “For the Supreme Court to describe witnesses of the NDC in the election petition case as “Fanciful Witnesses” should be a serious label that should awaken the rank and file of the party to demand change in leadership for new and refreshed way of doing things to reflect current technology trends.
“Comrades, the struggle to rescue our party from collapse begins immediately and nobody must entertain mediocrity, cult worship and sycophancy. Let us rise up and speak truth no matter whose ox is gored.
“Our founder Jerry John Rawlings taught us POSITIVE DEFIANCE and this is one of the golden opportunities to light up the flame in his honour. This party must continue the legacy to bequeath Ghana development at all fronts.
“Comrades, let us not allow the party to die with Founder Rawlings the way the CPP died with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.”
