The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, has broken the ground for the construction of an ultra-modern two-unit Kindergarten (KG) classroom block at the Police Basic School, and a three-unit classroom block for the Seventh Day Adventist Basic School at Abesim and Sunyani respectively.
The projects are scheduled to be completed within six months.
Addressing the media at the sod-cutting ceremony, a representative of the MP, Ansu Kumi, former Presiding Member of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, stated that the MP’s gesture was in fulfillment of his promise to the constituents to ensure quality and accessible education in the area.
He stressed that “a priority of the MP is education, which is the only key to success,” and urged the authorities of the two schools to ensure proper maintenance of the buildings to ensure the attainment of their intended purposes on completion.
On his part, the Sunyani Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Theresa Kyere Boakye, commended the MP for his gesture, noting that he had never turned down their requests for assistance.
Mrs. Boakye disclosed that schools, under the directorate, have been able to accommodate more students and abide by the COVID-19 safety protocols due to the provision of school blocks in various schools in the Municipality by the MP.
At the Police Basic School on the Sunyani Abesim road, the Deputy Manager for Police Educational Unit, Mr. Prince Kwasi Sey, commended the MP and appealed to him to expand the facilities, which, he said, are timely as the school had converted its canteen block into a classroom.
At the SDA Basic School at Abesim, the Headmistress, Madam Hanna Agyei, commended the MP for his timely intervention, but mentioned that lack of toilet for the pupils, a football park, unstable electricity, and erosion were some challenges facing the school. She called on the Assembly to assist the school.
