A former Municipal Chief Executive for Wenchi in the Bono Region, Odeefour Nana Atta Fena has appealed to the Bono Regional Minister-designate, Madam Justina OwusuBanahene to coordinate well with the traditional authorities and other stakeholders to fight for the development of the Bono region after her approval.
This, according to Nana Atta Fena, is the only means by which the regional minister nominee, when approved, would be able to achieve her aim of bringing more developmental projects to the region.
The Kontihene for Koase Traditional Area was speaking to Ark FM during an interview on the vetting of the Bono Regional Minister-designate, monitored by The Chronicle in Sunyani.
Expressing his expectation from the nominee after her approval, Nana Atta Fena stated that he expects a strong united front that will be able to push for a more deserving developmental agenda for the region.
He said the region has been deprived of development due to its inability to push for what it deserves unlike leaders in other regions that have a strong say in the business of government, yet the Bono region has been vibrant in the nation’s political activities.
He suggested that some intellectuals in the region, who the regional minister-designate must engage after her approval, to assist her developmental agenda for the region.
SANITATION
Madam OwusuBanahene announced plans to relocate the landfill site close to the GETFund Hostel of Sunyani Technical University to a new site near Baakoniaba.
According to the minister-designate, during the last quarter of 2020, the government in collaboration with the Zoomlion Company Ghana Limited secured a land at Baakoniaba, adding that“we are organising the place into a modern technology-driven landfill site”.
Madam Banahene also gave assurance that she would together with stakeholders see to the completion of the multi-million water projects in Sunyani and Wenchi, which are currently on-going.
In a related development, the Bono East Regional minister-designate, Mr.KwasiAduGyan proposed a special purpose vehicle to unearth more youthful talents in the region for agricultural development.
According to him, the region has challenges in the area of human capital and the creation of a special-purpose mechanism for large scale crop farming would help to create a more beautiful picture about the agricultural sector and attract the youth.
Taking his turn before the parliamentary vetting committee, Mr Gyan, an ICT specialist and former Director-General of the Ghana Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT ((AITI-KACE) told the committee that the problem of human capital can be attributed to the use of the rudimentary method of farming, which makes agriculture unattractive for the youth.
He, therefore, suggested the development of large scale crop farming and to take advantage of the Government of Ghana’s ‘One District, One Factory’ (1D1F) flagship programme.
Mr Gyan agreed that in the tourism sector, there are potentials in the region, such as the Apour Festival celebrated by the people of Techiman, which he described as a sense and beginning of democracy in the area.

The release said President AkufoAddo’s nomination of Madam Owusu-Banahene is an indication that she is a visionary leader.
