The Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV has been elected as the Council of State member from the Bono East region.
Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw secured all the 22 votes against his only contender, Mr. Adu-Baah Agyapong, who picked no vote.
The Techimanhene, 58, is an experienced banker, a lawyer and agricultural scientist. He was a key advocate for the creation of the Bono East region.
The Bono East Regional Election Commission boss, Mr. Gabriel Dei Yeboah said ten candidates had filed to contest the position but eight withdrew before voting got underway.
Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, Omanhene of Yeji and President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, Mr Fred Zeini, Obrempong Kru-Takyi, Alhassan Sulemana, Prince Amponsah, Nana Owusu Gyima, Gyabaah Nsiah and Godwin Kwadwo Amoako withdrew from the race setting the stage for the two.
The Bono East Council of State election was rescheduled from February 14 to 20, 2021 following an injunction placed on it by Sunyani High Court.
This was after three aggrieved Assembly Members, Afolabi Kennedy, Issah Mubarack and Adu Frimpong made claims to the court that their names were missing from the Electoral Commission’s voters register.
But the court quashed the injunction when it heard the matter on February 19, 2021 in Sunyani.
The court also slapped a cost of GH¢3,000 against the plaintiff, Hon Afolabi Kennedy, an Assembly Member in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality.
Meanwhile, the elected Council of State Member for the Bono Region Hon. Kwadwo Agyenim Boateng is pushing for some entrenched benefits to support Assembly Members in the country.
According to Mr Agyenim Boateng, “Assembly members have been contributing a lot to the development of local governance, with little or no motivation”, hence his plan to move a motion on the matter for consideration.
He continued that “Assembly members offer their time, money and ideas for the development of their locality without any benefits in return”. Adding that “it is about time their plight is taken into consideration”.
Mr. Agyenim Boateng is to represent the people of Bono Region for the second time in PresidentAkufo Addo’s administration.
