The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi Constituency, Alhaji Seidu Haruna, has presented relief items to fire victims at Wenchi-Wa-Anoma, a suburb of Wenchi, in the Wenchi Municipality in the Bono Region.
A four bedroom apartment was gutted by fire about two weeks ago, leaving some residents homeless.
The cause of the fire has still not been identified. The devastating effect of the fire outbreak compelled the MP to support the fire victims.
The items included 30 bags of cement and two packets of roofing sheets.
In an interview during the presentation of the items, Alhaji Seidu Haruna urged Ghanaians to be cautious of the usage of domestic electrical appliances in order to prevent any fire incident during this harmattan season.
“It was one of my local manifesto key points to resource the Wenchi Municipal Command of the Ghana National Fire Service to enable them to sensitise the public on the devastating impact of bushfires and the need for concerted efforts to minimise domestic and bushfires,” the MP noted.
Alhaji Haruna said resourcing the service would enable them to respond effectively and timely to incidents of bush and domestic fires and also help the service to do quick assessment of damage caused by fires to the environment and property.
Mr. Mohammed Moro, who received the items on behalf of the affected victims, expressed their gratitude to the MP for the kind gesture.
