Residents of Buasu Kwame Pinsang Electoral Area in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region have been compelled to share the only water source in the area with animals due to the lack of access to potable water.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr Emmanuel Dekyi, who disclosed this in an interview, said they share the same water source with cattle.
According to him, the affected villages are Kannease No1., Kannease, Gambia, Atakorakurom, Osei Kurom, Dan Nyame, Nyamebekyere and Pretua.
“Construction of boreholes in four villages in the area have been put on hold,” the Assembly Member said, and added that the situation was badly affecting their health.
He, therefore, appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and philanthropists to come to the aid of the affected persons and provide them with potable water, which will go a long way to enhance the health conditions of residents of the area.
Sustainable Development Goal Six, of which Ghana is a signatory, expects member nations to ensure access to water and sanitation for all by 2030.
