A number of parents and guardians thronged the various schools in Kumasi yesterday, seeking admission for their wards who have stayed at home for more than nine months as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a working visit to some of the schools, this paper observed parents were moving up and down trying to seek admission for their wards.
Some of the schools visited were Grace Baptist School, M.A Bediako Adventist Primary, M.A Bediako Adventist JHS, Asem Experimental Primary School and Kumasi Technical University. In most of these schools, there were Veronica buckets for students to wash their hands. The students were also seen wearing facemasks.

According to him, they held their entrance examination about a week ago, and the number of students who met their requirement have been granted admission into the school.Mr. Boakye told this paper that the pandemic has reduced the number of students that they used to admit, citing social distancing and inadequate space as an example.
On adherence to protocols as school re-opens, Peter Boakye disclosed that school authorities have informed parents about laid-down protocols and he expected students to obey them. The headmaster of the Grace Baptist School further told The Chronicle that they have scheduled a meeting with the parents and guardians in the coming days to engage them about measures the school has put in place to combat the virus.
Mr David Twumasi, the assistant headmaster of M.ABediako Adventist Preparatory School also told The Chronicle that they have put all the necessary measures in place to protect the children. Quizzed about the outlook of academic business, after the students have returned from a long break, David Twumasi explained that they anticipate difficulties but the situation would normalise as the academic calendar progresses.
The Chronicle further went to Asem Experimental Primary School, where students were seen cleaning up the compound of the dusty school. Veronica buckets had been placed in front of the school for students to wash their hands.
Earlier, The Chronicle visited the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), where newly-admitted students were going through admission formalities such as taking x-ray and laboratory testing. Indeed, all the students in the queue wearing face masks.
Speaking to a student who had gained admission to read Computerised Accounting, he told this paper that they have not officially been asked to adhere to the covid-19 protocols, but having gained admission into KsTU, he realised that he was in a high learning environment and must therefore wear the facemask.
At the Manhyia Divisional Police Command, some police officers who are supposed to set a good example for the public to emulate were seen talking to people at a close range without wearingfacemasks.
