Joshua Nii Akpeng Tettey, Stool Secretary to the Appolonia Traditional Council, has cautioned the public and investors against transacting business with persons parading themselves as regents of the area.
He told The Chronicle that Appolonia had a gazetted and recognised chief, in the person of Nii Nuertey Amobi II, whose lawful enstoolment rites were witnessed and authenticated by Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of Kpone Traditional Area.
Joshua Akpeng Tettey told The Chronicle that at the right time, the Appolonia Traditional Council would publicly humiliate “all the irresponsible and fake persons parading themselves as regents of Appolonia. It’s a matter of time.”
“Known in private life as Nathaniel Nuertey Tettey, Nii Amobi II is the only chief Appolonia has after the demise of Nii Tei Adumuah II, who reigned continuously for almost 38 years until his demise on January 14, 2014. I, hereby, want the general public and investors who want to do genuine business in Appolonia to deal with the Traditional Council, because going through anybody, apart from the recognised authority, is tantamount to a lost investment,” the Stool Secretary told The Chronicle at Appolonia over the weekend, where the Kojo We Clan of the Appolonia Traditional Area introduced Numo Simone Gbli Dortey as its new head.
Joshua AkpengTettey explained the importance of the introduction of each clan having a head as the traditional symbol of respect and recognition in the affairs of Appolonia.
“The clan heads liaise between the council and clans who are the custodians of Appolonia. The clan heads also serve as advisors to the stool because their depth of knowledge on traditional matters, customs and norms are so enormous that no chief would want to chart a course without them. We cannot afford to relegate our costly tradition to the modern ‘corrupt’ traditions. Appolonia will continue to remain different and special.
“The Appolonia Traditional Council commends the Kojo We clan for successfully giving us another fine personality to represent them at the council to champion the needed accelerated socio-economic developments we are all yearning for,” he noted.
The Kojo We clan settled on Numo Simone Gbli Dortey, 80, following the demise of 83-year-old Numo Elisha Narteh Dortey on March 1, 2020.
Due Ga traditional rites, including the pouring of libations to seek ancestral prayers and guidance for a clan head, were observed to usher Numo Dortey into office.
Promising to continue the good works of his predecessor, Numo Simone Gbli Dortey said he would also need the resolute support his predecessor enjoyed to succeed.
“This clan needs to continue to live in harmony with all the clans in Appolonia for development. Appolonia has an enviable history, but where are the infrastructural developments to match the rich history?
“I will need you to deliver my best for our clan and Appolonia,” Numo Simone Gbli Dortey said.
Dr Moses Nii Dortey, a Lecturer at the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana and son of the late Numo Elisha Narteh Dortey, was elated that the family could get another revered elder to succeed his father to steer the affairs of Kojo We.
“The outbreak of Covid-19 and its consequent strict health protocols delayed the family’s outdooring of my late dad’s successor. But, I am happy to say that after the long wait, a rightful heir has been chosen to head the Kojo We.
“I would like to implore all the members of this royal clan to throw our support to ensure that Numo Gbli Dortey leaves an enviable legacy in, not only Kojo We, but [the] entire traditional area,” Dr Moses Dortey said.
