While Mr. John Dramani Mahama, presidential candidate of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) is on the campaign trail spewing lies in order to win the sympathy of Ghanaians, The Chronicle can report authoritatively that the party in opposition is planning a series of sabotage activities to frighten voters, particularly in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongholds in the Ashanti Region and other places, to drastically reduce the vote accruing to the sitting President and his political party.
According to police intelligence available to this reporter, the NDC has succeeded in winning the sympathy of some 3,000 police personnel, particularly Chief Inspectors and Inspectors, who are peeved over the recent promotional examination that is said to have favoured younger and inexperienced personnel with better educational backgrounds against long and loyal service.
These disgruntled officers would be deployed with plain-clothed personnel and armed ex-servicemen and retired police officers armed to the teeth to cause mayhem, especially in NPP strongholds. In addition to arms and ammunition, the men on the beat would be in possession of tear gas and pepper spray.
“They will be at the polling stations (NPP strongholds) in mufti. They will be present during voting, but will come to disturb the peace during counting, operate swiftly and leave the scene.”
The NDC, according to the intelligence report, are relying on the leadership of a popular retired personnel to convince those they recruit that the party would take very good care of them when it comes into power.
Police personnel are supposed to be neutral, but there are reports of some officers and men openly campaigning underground within the service in their clandestine goal of unseating President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party administration.
The report claims that the party in opposition has convinced some sympathisers in senior ranks within the Electricity Company of Ghana in the districts especially, to undertake sabotage operations on the day of the vote, by putting lights off to make people, especially in the rural areas, panic and avoid watching the final count.
The Chronicle has also learnt that leaders of land guards in notoriously trouble-prone areas in the Central and Greater Accra regions have been recruited to cause all manner of disturbances on the day of the vote. The Chronicle has the names of some of land guards recruited to lead the disturbances.
The Chronicle also learns that on the blind side of Mrs. Jean Mensa and her commissioners at the Electoral Commission, NDC officials have infiltrated the commission’s Information Technology Communications (ICT) Department and succeeded in paying their way to get IT personnel to be deployed, particularly, in the regional, district and polling booths, to churn out figures that would have no bearing on the actual vote, as part of the gargantuan scheme to get the umbrella party and its candidates elected by foul means.
The report says the usual Togolese alien contingent would be in full force. This time, they would start crossing approved and unapproved border posts, at least, one week before the elections, in order to conceal their movements. A number of these alien voters would also arrive by boat along the beaches disguised as fishermen.
