It is highly perceived among the suspects in the murder of Professor Yaw Benneh that the ghost of deceased is on the warpath against them.
The prime suspect in the case, James Nana Wamba, now deceased, is alleged to have confessed to the second suspect, Opambuor Agya Badu Nkansah, that he was being haunted by the ghost of the late professor, resulting in sleepless nights in the cells.
According to a senior security source, this came up when Nana Wamba was alive, and in the cause of the ongoing investigation into the murder of the professor, the two suspects had the rare occasion to be together for some clarification.
The deceased suspect was alleged to have made the confession to Opambuor, now on admission at the Police Hospital, that the ghost was troubling him by squeezing his neck, resulting in near suffocation.
Opambuor, at this juncture, is alleged to have admitted a similar confrontation with the ghost of the late professor.
Suspect Wamba was sick and, therefore, admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Police Hospital under armed guard. The hospital authorities informed the Greater Accra Regional Police Command of the need to procure some particular drugs for the treatment of the suspect-patient.
The Command managed to secure a loan from a source to purchase the required drugs, but it was too late as the 26-year old gave up the ghost on October 19, 2020, by the time the medicine arrived at the hospital.
On October 21, 2020, the detectives on the case took suspect Opambuor to reconstruct the scene at Adjirigano, during which time he was reported to be extremely loquacious. A few days later, Opambuor reported sick, and had since been on admission at the Police Hospital.
The health of suspects in cases under investigation is vital, hence, the police is doing everything possible to ensure the second suspect’s condition stabilises, according to a senior police source.
According to the source, the interrogations the deceased suspect, Wamba, went through were recorded both on video and audio, which will aid the investigation and finally prosecution.
Professor Yaw Benneh was found murdered in his residence at Adjirigano, a suburb of Accra, in September last month.
Police initially apprehended his house cleaner, Nana Wamba, who, after forensic-led interrogation, broke down and confessed to the crime on video and audio.
Subsequently, he assisted detectives to pick others, including Opambuor.
The Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Ken Yeboah, addressing the media, stated that detectives retrieved two mobile phones, GH¢450, a central processing unit from a desktop computer which he hid in a septic tank.
