The Zongo community in Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality in the Central Region has enskinned a new community head in the person of Mahmoud Sidi Ibrahim.
He succeeds Chief Alhaji Ismail Dawaki, who passed away two months ago.
Mahmoud Sidi Ibrahim thanked the Chief of Dunkwa, residents and Zongo community for the acceptance and the confidence reposed in him.
He also thanked the former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, for his support.
The new Zongo Chief appealed to the NDC flagbearer for the establishment of an Arabic Senior High School in the community.
The Dunkwahene, Okofurobour Obeng Nuako III, at the ceremony, urged Ghanaians not to allow politicians to use them to perpetrate violence in the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
He tasked the Ghanaian youth to ensure that peace prevails in the country at all times, and not allow themselves to be influenced to visit violence on their colleagues and resist any attempt to be lured.
The Chief called on the major political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) – to “to agree on appropriate measures to bring an end to this worrying and unacceptable phenomenon of political violence.”
The Dunkwahene called for tolerance on the part of residents in their homes, workplaces, and churches in this election period, so that Ghana would go through its democratic process of elections peacefully.
Mr. Mohammed Salisu, Secretary to the Upper Denkyira East Chief Imam, advised the youth to channel their strength into fruitful ventures, and appealed to the government to promote Arabic schools in the country.
