Mr Arafat Sulemana Abdulai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zongo Development Fund (ZoDF), has received the Best CEO of the Year Award for championing poverty reduction and job creation through the ZoDF, from the Ghana Leadership Awards (GLA) 2020 (Organisers of the Awards programme) which was held in Accra .
The programme was on the theme: “Celebrating Our Heroes in a Peaceful Ghana, One People Working Together.”
The awards, according to the GLA, “recognise the leadership impact of individuals and organisations that have made outstanding difference to the social, business or educational landscapes, employment, innovation, poverty reduction, philanthropy work, building nations, and promoting peace locally and worldwide.”
Some other award recipients out of a total of 40 of various categories of awards at the programme include Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South, Mark Woyongo, former Minister of the Interior, Dr Frank Ankobea Esq., President of Ghana Medical Association, Dr Otiko Afisah Djaba, former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection and Chairperson of the Henry Djaba Foundation, as well as Mr Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, CEO of Crime Check Foundation .
Speaking to journalists after receiving the award, Mr Arafat Sulemana Abdulai expressed joy over his achievement, and said that couldn’t have been possible without the hard work, commitment and support of staff of the ZoDF, as well as the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development.
He also thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo for creating the ZoDF and giving him the opportunity to serve the nation.
The ZoDF, since its creation by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has implemented many programmes in the areas of education, health, and job creation among others, aimed at improving the lives of people living in the Zongo communities.
The ZoDF has also been very instrumental in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by distributing thousands of nose masks, hand sanitisers, liquid soaps and veronica buckets to people in the Zongo communities.
In his welcome address, Rev Prof Emmanuel Yaw Nash, President of the Ghana Leadership Awards Scheme, commended the award recipients for their hard work and immense contributions towards the development of the country.
He also admonished the youth to refrain from acts of violence before, during and after the December 7th elections.
