A private Legal Practitioner, Gabby Otchere-Darko, has charged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to use the month of October to approach undecided voters and convince them on the need to keep the party in power come the December 7 polls.
“This month is the month of catching the undecided voters. This is the time to approach the undecided voter, then we use November to prepare for the polls,” he said.
According to him, in 2016, he noted that the NPP must win the polls by a non-riggable margin. This, he noted, was a margin which cannot be contested or challenged, and that even “if you go and steal a ballot box or delay proceedings, it would not change anything.”
Speaking on Kumasi-based Wontumi Radio over the weekend, which was monitored by The Chronicle, Otchere-Darko argued that the fact that someone says he will vote for the NPP does not mean he will walk his talk.
This, he told the listeners, was the reason why NPP members, who are assembly men and women, constituency chairman, polling station chairmen, women organisers, volunteers and who love their country and family and want Ghana to keep developing, must not take chances, but make sure they wake up and convince those around them to vote for the NPP on December 7.
“If we say NPP is winning, it does not mean if you do not vote NPP is winning, it means the sentiments across the country are for NPP, but these sentiments are not enough to declare the NPP a winner, or to have the NPP swear the oath of office on January 7, 2021,” he said.
The private legal practitioner, therefore, charged NPP members across Ghana to physically go out there and harvest the votes, after which they will step out and vote.
“This is the month for harvesting votes, and in November, you prepare to go and vote. We are winning, but we must win massively. You can only win if you go out there and vote. Do not assume that we have won; you are on course, but you must win,” Gabby stated.
Siding with the Deputy Campaign Manager of the NPP, Otchere-Darko indicated that if one looks at the posture of the NDC, as espoused by Mustapha Hamid, a member of the NPP campaign team, the NDC knows they are going to lose and they are preparing the grounds to reject the results.
However, he noted that NPP supporters who fail to vote may get what the country does not want, saying, “NDC cannot win this election, but NPP may lose it. The only way you may lose it is if you do not do what you are supposed to do, which is to harvest the votes; make sure that everybody is going the right way, and then you get up and go and vote.”
Gabby Otchere-Darko further told the listeners that the national economy was in tatters when the NPP came to power, and that it took ingenuity of the new government to turn things around.
Commenting on the independent candidate fad in the NPP, Otchere-Darko explained that the NPP had to concede that the arrangements, which were done prior to the primaries, were done for various reasons, and there are so many people who are genuinely aggrieved.
To him, if the party does not concede that someone is aggrieved, they will not find the solutions. “Let us sympathise with those who feel they did not get the chance to contest.”
To him, some of the decisions were not well managed and this rankled some people. “To a point, I have sympathy for those who felt they were not treated well and they are going independent, but I have another message for those who are going for independent. In politics what makes you, is how you handle adversity you can endure in politics. That is what strengthens you. How you handle adversity makes you a politician precisely. You can justify why you are going independent, but four years may come,” he stated.
