The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has told President Akufo-Addo that his good works will speak for him, and that where he has reached in life, he does not need money but a good legacy. “You do not need money, your good works will speak for you,” he said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said this when President Akufo-Addo visited him at Manhyia Palace yesterday, as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.
According to King Osei Tutu, his subjects will remember the good works of the President, pointing out that though, that chiefs are not supposed to do partisan politics, but Nananom will vote at the end of the day.
He advised President Akufo-Addo to let his appointees explain to Ghanaians development projects his administration had so far executed for the people to appreciate his good works.
Otumfuo recalled that in the run up to the 2016 General Elections, then candidate Akufo-Addo came and informed Manhyia about his vision for Ghana, which Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted, was taken into prayers. “Nananom and ‘Sikadwa’ prayed for the dreams of President Akufo-Addo to come to pass,” Otumfuo said.
President Akufo-Addo, on his part, appealed to residents of the Ashanti Region, through the Overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom, to help the New Patriotic Party (NPP) win all the forty-seven parliamentary seats in the region.
The President told the Asantehene and his elders that he knows chiefs do not do politics, but they vote, and that when December 7 comes, they should help the NPP win the three ‘orphan constituencies’ in the Ashanti Region.
Touching on his record in office, President Akufo-Addo told the Asantehene that development, under his tenure of office, had been distributed equitably to all parts of the country.
In the Ashanti Region, for example, the President indicated that a total of 1,824 projects were being undertaken, out of which 774 had been completed and 1,050 still ongoing.
He told the Asantehene that there were 604 projects in the education sector, 92 in health, 151 in road projects, 606 in the water and sanitation sector, 1 in aviation, and 1 in the ports sector.
The Boankra Inland Port Project, which has been on the drawing board for several decades, according to President Akufo-Addo, was set to receive parliamentary approval in November, with the $330 million funding needed for its construction already secured by the government.
