A member of the National Small Scale Mining Task Force has lost his life in an operation at Dunkwa Buabinso in the Upper Denkyira East of the Central Region.
The said operation was in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to check on the people who abuse laws and work on the Offin River causing damage to the river at Buabinso.
Mr. Benjamin Odartey, 34, unfortunately lost his life when he tried to save the life of Mr. Ofosu Boakye who was drowning in the river.
The found body has since been deposited at the Dunkwa Government Hospital mortuary, while the police are still investigating the accident.
Chief Superintendent Mr. John Ferguson Dzinekue, Upper Denkyira Police Divisional Commander, said on September 14, 2020, he advised members of the Task Force to wear their safety gadgets before they go into the water on such operations to avert avoidable accidents.
He also advised the small scale miners to desist from working in rivers, reminding them that it is illegal.
