A total of 45,295 candidates, made up of 22,043 males and 23,252 females, from 74 public and 36 private Senior High schools, on Monday commenced this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
The examination, covering General Arts, General Science, Business, Agricultural Science, Visual Arts, and Home Economics, is expected to end on September 5 with Technical Drawing.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the three regions, Mr. Luke Mensah, told The Chronicle that 1,812 invigilators and 98 supervisors had been deployed to supervise the examinations at 98 centers across the three regions.
According to Mr Mensah, the examination papers were being kept under tight security in 19 depots in the three regions.
He added that because of the novel Covid-19 pandemic, candidates who have been isolated would write the papers from the isolation centers.
Mr Mensah urged the candidates to avoid any examination malpractices that could land them in trouble.
He said the examination was very important, as it was the only means of qualifying to gain admission to tertiary schools in the country.
He further appealed to teachers, invigilators and supervisors to shun assisting the candidates to cheat in the examinations.
