The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Sylvester Mensah Tetteh, says although the youth are full of energy and exuberance, it will be prudent if they invest their energies in profitable ventures that will profit the country.
He said whilst the Authority is mandated to promote youth participation in national development, they must also do their part to replicate same by investing their energies wisely and productively.
Speaking at the launch of International Youth Day by the NYA under the theme:”Youth Engagements for Global Action” yesterday in Accra, he added that locally it would be marked as “Promoting youth engagement in mitigating the impact of Covid-19: The need for youth involvement and creatively.”
The event, which is to be held on August 12, Mr Tetteh explained that the local theme was focused on how to encourage young people to be at the forefront of alleviating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) socio-economic, cultural and political effects.
“This calls for youth ingenuity and innovation in tackling challenges created by the pandemic, and developing solutions to aid Ghana’s post-Coronavirus recovery,” he said.
The NYA, under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), will engage the youth of Ghana in a series of dialogues and activities to empower them in the mitigation efforts.
The idea for the selection of the local theme was that the youth are the hardest hit in these trying times of Covid-19, especially with regards to education, employment and health.
These were borne out of the Covid-19 safety protocols, however, the government’s comprehensive interventions are yielding positive results.
However, in order to tap into the energy, creativity and innovation of young people to support the government in this direction, the NYA was certain that the youth would be considered in the rollout of the Covid-19 interventions.
He reviewed that the Day would be celebrated across the country, and urged the youth to fully participate in the event
Representing the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Ahmed Osman reiterated that as the elections are approaching, the youth should ensure that they are not used by individuals to cause mayhem.
According to him, it would be of great benefit if young people invest their energies productively and wisely for the betterment of the country.
He was obvious of the fact that the youth of the country have numerous challenges, but gave the assurance that they were of cardinal importance to the government, and as a result, it had taken steps to provide conducive environments for their development.
The Minister’s representative specifically communicated that the youth policy, which is at its conclusive stage, was tailored to address many of the challenges facing the youth.
