The National Democratic Congress (NDC), currently under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama (JDM), has now reached a cul-de-sac in its ardent desire to stop the Electoral Commission (EC) from compiling a voters’ register for election 2020 and those beyond.
With the Supreme Court’s mandatory ruling that the EC should go ahead and compile the new voters register, all protests against the exercise have come to an end, with the result that the “Iron Lady”, Jean Mensa, is free to go ahead with her constitutional duty to carry on with the exercise, which is, indeed, currently in progress.
Before the Apex court’s ruling, almost daily acts of violence against the exercise and the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, were reported. Some of the perpetrators of these acts of violence appeared to be urged on by some hefty powers, while others were just following the crowd.
In all these, my only daily prayer to the Bearded Old man Above (BOMA) was that no blood should be shed through either stray bullets or intended shots from the guns of personnel of the security agencies.
This was because such deaths would have been considered as “foolish death” (Nkwasea wuo) – no cause for it. I commend the security forces on their professionalism.
Luckily, God listened to my supplication and no drop of blood was reported, except that the swift current of legality swept away those who put up some foolhardy acts. They had, apparently, forgotten that Ghana is being administered through carefully laid-down laws.
Poor souls, they were not content with “staying their somewhere” and peacefully enjoying their “poor” meals.
Well, all is over now; no individual or group has been the winner, and any type of teasing is not necessary. It is our democracy which has won. The NDC is also registering; it should be highly commended. It has succumbed to the dictates of democracy and our laws, the beauty of them all.
Now the crucial election 2020 is fast approaching and political parties have started with their campaigns. I have some few words for JDM. I consider him very lucky. He lost Election 2016 at the end of his first term. This tacitly implied that he was not competent enough to the liking of the electorate.
Luckily for him, however, he has got another chance to prove to the electorate that if he had not lost the election in 2016, he would have been able to make Ghana a paradise on earth with the massive transformation of lives.
He should not let this golden chance slip by. He, indeed, stands the chance of recapturing power against the background of the saying of the wise that “nea anidaso nie no, eho na adea wo” to wit “success usually comes from hopelessness.”
For example, the then presidential candidate of the new Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had not the dog’s chance against an incumbent President, JDM, with all the massive resources at his disposal, but the former won the 2016 elections.
JDM is also capable of turning the tables around. But, before he can achieve the feat, he should change his mode of campaign. The Green Book, out of the sincerity of my heart, contains “unprecedented” development projects, but how many Ghanaians, especially, our rural dwellers, know of this?
During the campaigns of election 2016, some NDC enthusiasts went about armed with the Green Book, ostensibly, to educate Ghanaians on the “unprecedented” projects JDM had undertaken. How many rural dwellers benefitted from this, since those campaigners limited their activities to the urban areas, as seen on the screens of television sets.
They only went about screening some projects accompanied with the ugly twist of the lips, thinking, perhaps, everybody in the hinterlands has TV a set.
Election 2020 is just around the corner. JDM should send his campaign teams to the homes of rural dwellers to enable the latter be aware of what he did for Ghana during his regime.
The campaigners should also be warned against insulting their political opponents, since this can easily result in the alienation of many voters. Voters want to know the “unprecedented” development projects listed in the Green Book. Insults against political rivals are irrelevant.
They should also not attack some of the policies of the incumbent government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, such as the free Senior High School, which has been massively embraced by Ghanaians. They should let people know of what JDM has done and will do, such as building a village for People Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
Enter Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, Founder of Life Assembly Worship Centre. I am very happy that there is somebody in Ghana who looks very promising in forming a Third Force political party to challenge the NPP and NDC, which have not yet learnt the benefits to be derived from peaceful co-existence.
These two political parties continue to make Ghana too noisy. While one says it is the de facto party chosen by God to rule Ghana, another says this is arrogant noise-making from an empty barrel.
Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews is the Founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), whose activities and utterances on his Fire TV screen make his policy a serious one. GUM seems to be an offshoot of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Convention Peoples Party (CPP).
It shows abundant concern for the industrialisation of Ghana, leading to massive job creation, etc.
As a religious personality with a sizable congregation, he stands the chance of turning Ghana into a “Prayer Camp” where greed, “gluttonous corruption”, avarice etc., will not have fertile grounds to breed.
Even though it is too early to assess the man’s intention, since “all that glitters is not gold”, there is also the saying that “agoro beso a, efiri anopa” – the success of a play starts early in the morning.
Let’s, therefore, create an agenda of “wait and see” against the background of the biblical observation of Christ that “by their fruits, ye shall know them.”
GHANA WILL SUCCEED!
